Pony Rides, Picture Opportunities and Pumpkins at Ricky Ranch in Granite Bay

Even though I am an empty nester, I didn’t feel like it was Fall unless I went to a pumpkin patch. I chose to go to Ricky Ranch in Granite Bay. As soon as I arrived at the ranch, I was excited to see wide open places. The grounds were adorned by various shapes of pumpkins and scarecrows. Several tractors were on display for picture moments. One of the tractors was so old it had to be started with a hand crank!

Along one side of Ricky Ranch was rows of grapevines. I was told they make a mighty fine Zinfandel! Across the street from Ricky Ranch’s pumpkin patch is more property owned by Ricky Ranch with over twenty cows. I was told that kids of all ages make arrangements with Ricky Ranch to come feed the cows!

The animals were friendly and mild manner. Of the five ponies, two had just been rescued by Ricky Ranch. The pig was doing what pigs do…roll in the dirt! The chickens entertained the kids as they ran around in their chicken coop. Pony rides were available and guided by Lloyd Cooper for a $5 charge.

On the weekends, Bootleg BBQ Co. serves a variety of BBQ’d meats including pulled pork, stuffed jalapeno, and home made coleslaw.

Do you have a favorite pumpkin patch?

Happy Harvest!
